Acoustic Localisation Workshop
Acoustic localisation allows you to map the location of individual animal calls, which is useful for population estimations, understanding habitat use or animal behavior. In this workshop we will demonstrate how to plan and run an acoustic localisation experiment and process the results.
We will cover:
• Recorder setup
• Array configuration (recorder separation and positions)
• Testing
• Processing and mapping the results.
We encourage you to bring your own laptop, as software and example data will be provided. However it is not necessary, and everyone is welcome to watch or participate.

Hitchhiker's Guide to Writing Compelling Scientific Papers Quickly & Easily (Part 1)
Scientists spend years learning and perfecting the methodologies required to answer their most ambitious questions. Sadly, far less time is spent learning how to effectively formulate the fruits of their labor into an enticing and convincing story – until now! Join us for a free step-by-step guide to the paper writing process. We will begin with an introduction into the key attributes that all great papers share. We will then explore some examples of authors that have incorporated these attributes well (and those who have not). Finally, we will apply these lessons in several hands-on writing exercises. All are welcome, regardless of experience or interest.
Make sure to catch Part 2 with Prof. Cate McInnis-ng who will cover the post-submission process!

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Publishing Process (Part 2)
Join Cate Macinnis-Ng (Senior Editor, Journal of Applied Ecology) for a workshop diving into the publication process. We will look at submission, review and revision steps with a focus on strategies for success. Topics covered include choosing a journal (including different journal models), different paper types, what to expect during the submission process, responding to reviewer comments and publicising your published work. Cate will draw on experience gained through serving on editorial boards of six international journals. The workshop is predominantly aimed towards students and early career researchers but all are welcome to attend.
