Crochet for Conservation

Every year for the last four years Jin Lee crochets soft toys, sells them under the name Jingerjam and then gives all the proceeds to a charity (there is a little more information below). All the toys are made by hand by Jin, and this year she has made a fair few native species (see below)! They make excellent gifts for children and are safe for all ages. The simplest of these toys typically takes Jin a minimum of four hours to make, which she does in her spare time after work, so please be generous and help her support our local charities. If you would like to see more of her crochet you can see more of it on her Instagram page by following her ( - all her toys are sold for charity.

Last year just before Christmas she sold them at Plant and Food Research and managed to raise over $1000 for Forest & Bird (see the attached article).

This year NZES has been kind enough to support her endeavour and is letting her auction off and sell some of these toys at the NZES conference. All the money will go to either Hinewai Reserve, Koru Care or Recreate - it will be the buyers choice as to which they would like their money to support.

A few of the smaller bears and the elephants are being sold for a set price, while the larger toys and some of the one offs are going to be sold in a silent auction.I am going to try to be around with the toys set up at a table during every lunch time, so if you would like to see the toys first hand and nab one just keep an eye out for the crochet table.

Ngā mihi nui,
Jin Lee and André Bellvé

Jingerjam is not for profit and all toys are either gifted to charities or the proceeds go directly to charities. We are firm believers in supporting our local community and providing a better future for the next generation. In the past, Jingerjam has donated to:

  • Starship Children's Hospital
  • Women's Refuge
  • Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust
  • Prostate Cancer Research
  • Forest and Bird
