Field Trips 

The SocCon Committee have arranged a number of great field trips, please scroll down to see details of the itinerary and cost involved for each of these options.  

All three Field Trips will take place in the afternoon of Thursday 6th of October, departing Christchurch Town Hall at 2.00pm and returning at 5pm. Once all participants arrive there will be a short talk discussing shared histories. Then participants will head off on their various walks/activity around the CBD.

The organising committee reserves the right to cancel a trip at any time, offering a full refund (of the field trip fee only) or offering the participant the opportunity to change to another available trip.

You can sign up for field trips when registering for the conference, these are included as additional activities to add to your registration. Link to the online conference registration form is available on the Registration page.

Waka on Avon

A journey down the Avon River to discover the legacy of  Māori and early Settler interaction. Learn and hear the stories of Christchurch’s history and its early landmarks that have shaped the city's destiny.


Ōtautahi Christchurch History Hikoi

Date: Thursday 6 October 2022
Cost: $10/person

Starting the walk briefly at Victoria Square, the experienced Walk Christchurch will take delegates on a history laden tour using Christchurch's CBD and its fascinating landmarks, as a context for exploring Ōtautahi's history. The walk will take approximately 1.5 hrs. From old to more contemporary history, the walking tour will give delegates a taste of Christchurch's rich history


Earthquake Re-build walking tour

Leader: Ōtakaro
Date: Thursday 6 October 2022
Cost: $10/person

Led by Ōtakaro, the government agency in charge of the main anchor projects, participants will walk around Ōtautahi's CBD. They will explore the various new anchor projects and learn all about the re-build post 2011.
