Merchandise Design Competition

Show us your creative side and help create the official artwork for NZES-SCBO 2026!

The Local Organising Committee is inviting submissions for a design that captures the spirit of the joint New Zealand Ecological Society (NZES) and Society for Conservation Biology Oceania (SCBO) Conference 2026, taking place in Auckland from 30 November to 4 December 2026. The winning design may be featured on official conference merchandise available for delegate purchase, including items such as:

  • Hoodies
  • T-shirts
  • Tea towels
  • Tote bags (subject to final selection)

This is a great opportunity to showcase your artwork and leave a lasting mark on this year's conference.

Design Brief

We are looking for a design that:
  • Reflects ecology, conservation, biodiversity, or environmental science in Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific.
  • Celebrates the themes and connections represented by the NZES and SCBO communities.
  • Works well when printed on merchandise using one or limited colours.
  • Can be reproduced across a variety of products and sizes.
Designs may be:
  • Illustrative
  • Graphic
  • Hand-drawn
  • Digital Artwork
Humour, creativity, and scientific inspiration are all welcome.

Design Requirements

  • Submit artwork in a high-resolution format (vector filed preferred where possible).
  • Designs should be your original work.
  • The winning entrant may be asked to work with the organisers and merchandise supplier to make minor adjustments for production.
  • By entering, you grant permission for the conference organisers to reproduce the design on conference merchandise and promotional materials related to the conference.

Prize

The winning designer will receive:
  • Recognition during the conference opening session. 
  • A complimentary item of conference merchandise featuring their design. 
  • Bragging rights as the creator of the official NZES-SCBO 2026 conference artwork.
