Note that an NZIPES school subscription to teaching and assessment resources is not a membership and does not qualify for a member rebate on registration fees. Are you a student?  We have a limited number of free registration passes for students who are willing to help with providing technical/session support. If you are interested in volunteering as a student helper, please apply by email to president@nzip.org.nz stating your availability over the three days and why you need a free registration pass. 

Are you a New Zealand based secondary educator? You may be eligible for a $250 rebate on your registration if any one of the below apply to you. This rebate is applied and redeemed when registering and subject to availability as funds are limited.

1) early career (0-5yrs) 

2) are a physics educator but have never attended this conference before

3) from an area outside of Auckland impacted by the recent cyclone (Northland, Hawkes Bay, Coromandel or East Coast)

4) financial hardship 

5) facing significant travel cost

Payment

Payment is required at the end of the registration process by Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard or Visa accepted). All fees are expressed in $NZ and include GST of 15%. For group bookings, please contact the conference organisers before completing your registration, nzip2023@confer.co.nz.

If you do request payment by invoice, please ensure that payment is made within 7 days or advise us if your organisation has a payment schedule that falls outside of this. Your invoice/receipt will be attached to your confirmation email.

Registration cancellation and refund policy

Cancellations must be notified in writing by email to nzip2023@confer.co.nz. Cancellations received on or before 31 May 2023 will be charged an administration fee of $100. No refund will be given for registration cancellations received after 31 May 2023 (including “no shows” at the conference). Registrations can be transferred to another delegate at any time without charge. Insurance is strongly recommended and your responsibility to have insurance to cover medical, travel, and registration expenses in the event of unforeseen circumstances. 

COVID & virtual registration 

We intend to hold this conference primarily as an in-person conference in Auckland  from 3 -5 July 2023.  

There may continue to be a risk of disruption due to COVID. We encourage anyone who has registered that becomes unable to attend the conference due to COVID to advise the organisers. The society will review and consider approving a refund (less the administration fee of $100) for any COVID cancelled registrations following the conference subject to the society’s fiscal position. 

If government restrictions prevent the event from taking place in-person on the planned dates, the first instance organisers will consider postponement or shifting to a virtual format.

Code of Conduct

The New Zealand Institute of Physics (NZIP) is the institute for professional physicists. Our members include college teachers, university lecturers, students studying to be physicists, CRI scientists and industry scientists. The NZIP aims to facilitate an inclusive Conference that encourages the free exchange of ideas and welcomes all voices in a respectful atmosphere. We invite participation from people of all races, ethnicities, genders, religions, nationalities, ages, experience and abilities.

NZIP Diversity statement 

As organizers, we are working to try to provide a balanced and diverse program. Please help us build a better, more inclusive NZIP conference by forwarding our Call for Abstracts throughout your networks, and by sending through to Conference organisers suggestions for presenters and participants that will help us increase diversity amongst speakers and attendees.
