Update:
Symposia are now confirmed and can be viewed by clicking here.
For submissions to these symposia or to the general call for abstracts and workshops please visit the 'Call for abstracts' page here for more information.
This year we invite you to put forward your idea for a symposium (or "special session"), which is a collection of talks around a common topic of interest.
Due 28 October 2022 Extended 11 November 2022
Symposia would normally consist of one or two 30 minute invited talks as well as 15 minute contributed talks to be selected from submissions. The invited speakers should be able and willing to give a presentation accessible to the broad spectrum of NZIP conference participants (including undergraduate students and teachers) and should include an overview of their field.
A symposium should typically aim at filling one or two 1.5 hour (parallel) sessions at the NZIP conference. The symposium organiser will be responsible for communicating with the symposium speakers. They will further work with the conference organising committee on timetabling and will assist in the selection of suitable contributed talks.
See full details below.
Note: A separate call for individual conference contributions including workshops, talks, and posters will open with the general registration site in December.

Submitting your Proposal
More information for symposia organisers:
All symposia submitters are encouraged to take an active leadership role in coordinating any accepted session. This means seeking out and encouraging speaker participation in your session (please note registration requirements for presenters below). You will be supported by the event organisers and the programme committee will also work with you in confirming the final session line up for the conference programme. If you are unable to take on this role (it is not a large one) but would still like to put forward an idea please advise in your submission. Co-organisers are welcome although one person will need to be the corresponding facilitator.
Once accepted, all symposia will be listed on the conference website and featured in a conference newsletter along with the call for abstracts which opens in November. All participating speakers will need to submit an abstract for their presentation. The symposium organiser is asked to ensure any invited speakers are reminded of this requirement as well as the registration requirements (see below).
The call for abstracts will allow all submitters an option to identify their submission as a candidate for a specific symposium. All submitted abstracts will be advised to the symposia organisers along with any other general submissions that may also be of interest. In partnership with the programme committee, you will confirm the final speaker line up and the event organisers will send speaker confirmations as well as announce the programme.
Prior to the event, you may also be asked to secure a session chair.
Language of Submission
All submissions must be submitted in English or accompanied with an English version.
Word Count
Submissions should be 250 words or less for the description. Additional word count is allowed for the additional details required.
Review and Notification to Submitters
All completed submissions will be reviewed. You will be informed by email (from nzip2023@confer.co.nz) of the acceptance status by mid November 2022.
Registration
All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted symposia must be completed by the early bird deadline to ensure a reliable programme.
