Site Visit to Scion - Te Whare Nui o Tuteata

The Scion tour will feature a visit to Te Whare Nui o Tuteata, a striking three-story mass timber building that showcases modern sustainable design. The tour will also include visits to various cutting-edge facilities, such as the Timber Engineering Laboratory, the Wood Treatment and Drying Lab, and the Timber Durability Field Testing Facilities, offering insights into innovative timber research and technology.

Site Visit to the Red Stag TimberLab CLT Factory

Red Stag TimberLab is the only purpose-built Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) manufacturing facility in New Zealand. Red Stag is vertically integrated, with forestry, the Southern Hemispheres largest structural sawmill, is carbon neutral certified, including a self-sufficient renewable energy centre with three biomass boilers and turbines, Light Timber Framing (LTF) and panelisation plants, GLT and LVL manufacturing and only purpose-built Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) manufacturing facility in New Zealand.With three manufacturing sites, Red Stag has the largest and most advanced CAD/CAM and CNC processes and equipment in New Zealand, with the ability to develop and manufacture precision modular systems and components.

With over 60 years expertise in bonding large structural timber members, Red Stag TimberLab excels in producing large, Engineered Wood Products (EWP) to create some of the most iconic mass timber structures in the Southern Hemisphere. This proficiency ensures that every member is manufactured to international best practice, with the protection of treatment to New Zealand and Australian standards.

This site visit will demonstrate the how flow path from initial feedstock to a wide range of CLT products, including material supply, CNC finishing, and quality control.
