SIG Meeting Proposals

The Energy Special Interest Group meeting will be held during the lunch break at the 2026 GSNZ conference held in Rotorua 30 November – 03 December.  The meeting will provide an  opportunity for GSNZ members and anyone else interested in Energy and related topics to get together and discuss current issues including renewables, CCUS, the Emissions Reduction Plan, energy policy, transport, liquid fuels, the transition to net zero, and any other energy-related topics of relevance to New Zealand.  The meeting will plan future Special Interest Group activities such as get-togethers and talks.

An opportunity for GeOID SIG members to meet their organizer and other members to reflect on the year that has been and to look forward to the year ahead. We also welcome new members or anyone interested in learning more about the GeOID kaupapa.

Come kōrero with GeoNet! If you work in geoscience, you are probably a direct or indirect user of GeoNet. This session will share recent updates, highlights, challenges and medium-term plans, alongside examples of partnership and collaborations. We invite open discussion on how we can better engage, align research and operations and develop new partnership opportunities. 

GeoNet is Aotearoa’s national land and geohazards data and monitoring system, underpinning research, information, and advice across earthquakes, landslides, tsunami, and volcanoes. Its multidisciplinary data and products are built on a sustained core of data services and enabled through strong scientific and technical partnerships.   

This is the annual meeting for the Society's volcanology special interest group (LAVA NZ).  All welcome.                                     

Update on the activities of the New Zealand paleontology community

The Seismology Special Interest Group (SSIG) was formed in 2024 as an inclusive forum for New Zealand seismologists from diverse organisations and at different stages in their careers. The annual meeting at GSNZ provides an opportunity to review the activities undertaken through the year, reflect on how best the SSIG can serve the community, and for all members to suggest future activities. We also welcome volunteers for the committee for the coming year, or to champion specific projects. We hope to see many of our members there, and to welcome newcomers curious to find out more!
