Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau

Auckland -the nation's largest city and the country’s financial and economic powerhouse.

Auckland’s modern, clean city centre is buzzing with shopping precincts, waterfront cafés and restaurants, outstanding attractions and superb events. All this is nestled in a wider setting of sparkling harbours, native forests, ancient volcanic cones and beautiful beaches, which tempt visitors with an amazing range of things to see and do.

Auckland’s cosmopolitan character reflects a rich cultural melting pot, with strong Māori, Polynesian and European heritage, added to by many other cultures from around the world, – a diversity that’s represented in our cuisine, architecture, art, music and events.

TRANSPORT

Public transport in Auckland, the largest metropolitan area of New Zealand, consists of three modes: bus, train and ferry.

Auckland Airport is about 45 minutes away by bus, car or taxi. SkyDrive departs every 15 minutes to the city, and costs about NZ$18 each way. If you are traveling by taxi, they are located outside the domestic and international terminals and cost approximately NZ$70 into the city. If you are traveling by car, take the Southern Motorway north, exit at Wellesley Street and follow the signs that direct to 'University'.

Services are coordinated by Auckland Transport under the AT Metro brand. Use this to plan your journey. You will need a pre-paid HOP card as cash is not accepted: Click here for more information
