Call for Workshops

All workshops are for 60 minutes and include time for Q & A and discussion. We want all sessions to be inspirational, interactive, and align with our conference theme.

We appreciate the time and effort involved in preparing and presenting a workshop. Presenting authors of accepted abstracts will receive one full complimentary conference registration.  If more than one presenter, the complimentary registration fee will be shared – i.e. 50% discount each.  Please note that travel, accommodation, and other related expenses remain the responsibility of each presenter.

  • Resources you will provide (most things will be converted to pdf format)

As a presenter, we ask you to:

  • Design and deliver engaging sessions: Create a clear agenda with learning objectives and interactive elements
  • Facilitate group activities and discussions: Lead participants through hands-on exercises, case studies, or group discussions to deepen their understanding
  • Provide materials and resources: Develop handouts, digital resources or follow-up guides for post-conference application

Review and Notification to Authors

  • All completed abstracts will be reviewed, and you will be informed by email of the acceptance status of your abstract.

WORKSHOP THEMES

Addressing Housing Insecurity

  • Discussing housing insecurity, housing unaffordability and the role of social housing, affordable rentals and home ownership programmes as they relate to Pasifika whanau
  • Types of housing models (including Affordable Rental and Home Ownership models) that address the housing needs and housing insecurity for Pasifika    whanau and how wrap around services support positive outcomes.
  • How to bridge the gap of severe housing deprivation that exists amongst Pasifika whanau, while acknowledging cultural identity and community support
  • Types of housing that addresses the balance between need and value for money and social impact return
  • Types of supportive Home Ownership programmes, including the wrap around services, to improve low participation as it relates to Pasifika whanau

Multi-Generational Housing

  • Discussing what multigenerational and intergenerational housing (MGH) means as it relates to Pasifika whanau
  • The role that cultural and socioeconomic factors play in MGH and location considerations
  • How MGH can achieve security of tenure, affordability, habitability and suitability
  • Housing designs that are adaptive to meet changing family dynamics
  • Balancing spatial and cultural considerations
  • Accessibility to meet the needs of an ageing population

Housing Designs

  • Discussing adaptive housing designs that aim to meet the evolving dynamics of extended family living
  • Accessible designs that encompass fully accessible versus universal design standards
  • Catering designs that meet the needs of residents who are; elderly, require supported living or disabled
  • How integration of renewable energy and smart technology can have a positive financial impact
  • Bespoke housing designs, compared to modular houses and how they meet the needs of culturally appropriate designs

Government Policy

  • Discussing how partnership and collaboration in developing policies can address the housing needs of Pasifika whanau and close the housing deprivation  gap
  • Different international funding models that can address the policy, design and delivery of housing need while considering the balance between value for  money and social impact return
  • Addressing the need for supportive home ownership programmes

Apprenticeships

  • Discussing how Pasifika apprenticeships can build local capacity through training in construction and design
