CALL FOR PROPOSALS

HASANZ welcomes proposals for the 2026 HASANZ Conference. Our objective is to learn from the past, lead in the present, and innovate for the future. We invite proposals that focus on any part of this theme – whether centred on past insights, present-day challenges, future ideas, or a combination of all three.

Presentations will be given at the concurrent sessions in our conference programme on the morning and afternoon of Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September 2026. Your submission should fit with one of the following streams:

1. Learning from the Past

2. Leading in the Present

3. Innovating for the Future

We are seeking compelling, informative, and inspiring presentations that will build professional capability.

This conference has a practical focus. We are looking for examples of best practice in action and practical advice, tips and tools that people can take away and apply to make New Zealand's workplaces healthier and safer.

Presentations may include case studies, innovative practice examples, research-based presentations or technical and academic papers across all areas of workplace health and safety.

Selection Criteria

Abstracts must be submitted online, be no more than 300 words (2100 characters) and should meet the selection criteria:

  • Relevance to conference theme Learning from the Past, Leading in the Present, Innovating for the Future.
  • Audience Appeal
  • Originality
  • Currency
  • Interest
  • Papers should contribute to the improvement of workplace health and safety in New Zealand.

Abstracts should include target audience, aims, methods, results conclusion (where appropriate) and learning objectives.

The online submission form will request the following information: contact details for the principal presenter and any co-presenters, co-authors, presenter profiles and colour photo (head and shoulders portrait shot) and conference theme and stream association.

IMPORTANT: Once you have completed your submission, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this confirmation email, we have NOT received your submission. Please remember to check your spam/junk folders and contact the conference organisers should you need assistance at hasanz2026@confer.co.nz.              


Abstract Review and Notification to Authors

Abstracts will be evaluated by the HASANZ Conference Committee against the selection criteria. Authors will be notified by 8 May 2026 regarding preliminary acceptance of their abstract. 

Presentation format

Accepted presenters will be allocated 30 minutes, including 5 minutes for questions. They will have access to a data projector, laptop, screen and sound system.

Registration

If your submission is accepted for presentation, you must register for the conference. Presenters can register at the discounted early rate until Friday 26 June 2026. 


Terms and Conditions

By submitting an abstract and photo, you give consent to publication of the abstract and photo in conference material, including, but not limited to, the HASANZ website, conference programme, conference app and conference publicity. All abstracts must be original work. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the abstract. All submissions must be completed electronically via the online submission form by 17 April 2026. On acceptance, presenters are expected to register and pay. A discounted registration rate is available to all presenters - one-day or full conference options are offered. The deadline for presenter registration is 26 June 2026.
