Getting to Palmerston North

By Air

Air NZ offers direct flights to Palmerston North from Auckland (1h 10m) and Christchurch (1h 10m).

By Coach

Multiple daily InterCity services operate between Auckland and Palmerston North (approximately 9 hours) or Wellington and Palmerston North (approximately 2 hours).  Journeys are available from many other centres, check the website for details.

Nakedbus.com operates daily bus services to Palmerston North from all major cities including Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, and Wellington as well as smaller North Island towns. 

Self-drive

If you prefer to drive, New Zealand offers a number of rental car companies, both big brands with modern fleet vehicles to more budget offerings of older cars. The drive from Auckland (airport) to Palmerston North is around 6-7 hours (excluding breaks), and Wellington to Palmerston North is usually between 90 minutes and 2 hours.

RIDESHARE, TAXI AND SHUTTLE SERVICES FROM DIRECTLY OUTSIDE THE TERMINAL.

Taxis Palmerston North, (06 355 5333), Taxis Gold & Black, (06 351 2345), and Supershuttle (09 522 5100) operate from the main taxi rank in front of the terminal building.

A dedicated Pick-up and Drop-off Zone for Rideshare passengers is located in the General Car Park in the ‘P30’ car parking area towards the front of the terminal.

Paid casual parking (through Pay and Display) is available from Monday to Friday:

  • at Orchard Road car park (the largest car park)
  • by the Courtyard Complex
  • by the Māori Studies building behind the Library
  • by the Sport and Recreation Centre.

These Pay and Display car parks are free on weekends and public holidays.

Coupon parking is available on University Avenue (the ring road). You can buy parking coupons from the Campus Operations Service Desk (formerly RFM Helpdesk). They can also be used for the Pay and Display car parks, excluding those behind the Library.

You can park for free in reserved and numbered parking areas on weekends and public holidays, and after 4.30pm on weekdays. Anyone can park in the reserved and numbered parks at no cost. Only parking permit holders can park there on Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.30am to 4.30pm.

While we try to provide as much parking as possible, there may not be parking space available for every vehicle that enters the campus.

Only the Orchard Road car park has full-day parking available (cash or card payments), the other car parks are limited to 2 hours and require coins to purchase pay and display tickets. The cost for Orchard Road car park Manawatū Campus (ticket on entry) is:
