Call for Abstracts

Join marine scientists, managers and practitioners from around the world in beautiful Paihia, Aotearoa New Zealand, for GEOHAB 2027.

A hallmark of GEOHAB is its single-stream conference format. Rather than running concurrent sessions, delegates come together in one shared programme, creating a highly collaborative environment where all participants can engage with the same presentations, discussions and emerging ideas.

This format encourages interdisciplinary exchange, broadens exposure to new research, and fosters connections across the marine habitat mapping community.

Authors may indicate their preferred presentation format when submitting an abstract:
  • Oral Presentation - Approximately 12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions and speaker transition
  • Lightning Talk - Approximately 5 minutes presenting a concise idea, innovation, dataset, emerging result or provocation for discussion
  • Poster Presentation - Visual presentation displayed throughout the conference, with dedicated opportunities for discussion and networking

The Scientific Committee will consider authors' preferences alongside programme balance and session development when allocating presentation formats.

Presentations, both talks and posters, will be presented over the core conference dates of 4-6 May.

Themes

Abstract topics need to be related to marine habitat mapping but preference will be given to topics that complement the theme by providing new insights into:

  • Climate change effects on marine habitats
  • Coastal and shallow-water habitats
  • Continental shelf & slope habitats
  • Deep-sea habitats
  • Deep-sea mining
  • Habitat mapping for marine restoration
  • Human impacts on marine habitats
  • Management & communication
  • Mapping programs, datasets, efforts & partnerships
  • New approaches & technologies
  • Participatory mapping, citizen science & outreach
  • Polar & sub-polar environments
  • Urban sea systems
Conference sessions will be developed from submitted abstracts and may be refined to reflect emerging topics and the breadth of submissions received.
