The Conference venue

The 17th International Conference on the Ecology and Management of Alien Plant Invasions will be held at Lincoln University, New Zealand.

Lincoln University Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki was founded in 1878 and is the oldest agricultural teaching institution in the Southern Hemisphere. It remains the smallest university in New Zealand and one of the eight public universities. Its purpose is to facilitate excellent research and education to grow the knowledge of its students and help shape a world that benefits from a greater understanding of the relationships between land, food and ecosystems.

Lincoln University is a leading institution in plant and environmental sciences. It offers specialized programs and research opportunities in areas such as plant biology, ecology, and environmental management. The university's facilities support extensive fieldwork and laboratory research, allowing students and researchers to engage directly with New Zealand’s diverse plant ecosystems. With a commitment to sustainability and ecological innovation, Lincoln University provides a strong foundation for advancing plant science and conservation efforts. Its close proximity to various natural landscapes enhances the practical and research opportunities available to the academic community.

The campus is situated on 50 ha (120 acres) of land located about 15 km (9 mi) outside the city of Christchurch, in Lincoln, Canterbury.

Getting to Lincoln University from Christchurch

Public Transport

Buses to campus
There is a regular public bus service that runs from the Christchurch city centre to the Lincoln University campus. The Lincoln University bus stop is a 5-minute walk from the conference venue. The bus number is 80 and its terminus is Lincoln University campus. You can download the timetable and route here. The most suitable times to catch the bus are:

The first three buses should get you on site in time for the Tuesday conference opening, while the fourth bus is also an option on the Wednesday and Thursday.  The bus fare is $4 one-way and you can pay with cash on the bus. If you purchase a Metrocard ($5) then the fare is only $3 and this might be the cheaper option if you plan to use Christchurch public transport before or after the conference. Details of getting a Metrocard can be found here.

Buses from campus
Returning to Christchurch city centre, the following buses are worth considering:

The 6:52 pm is a good option at the close of the poster session, while the 8:54 pm and 9:54pm buses should cater for those returning to the city centre after the conference dinner. We are considering the possibility of hiring a bus at 9:30 pm should we find there is demand at this time.

Driving

If you decide to drive to campus, you can use the Orchard Car Park via Gate 3 from Springs Road or the Springs Road Car Park just opposite Gate 3. If you are bringing an electric vehicle, we have car charging stations in the Orchard Carpark.
