In December 2022, Fire and Emergency NZ completed its transition to fluorine free firefighting foams for use on Class B fires (fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol, alcohols and solvents). The transition period for withdrawal of all remaining foams containing PFAS (per- and poly fluoralkyl substances) is December 2025. This presentation will discuss the work that is ongoing and the issues arising.
