like New Zealand and California have endured the devastating impact of
earthquakes. In response, many local and state governments have initiated
seismic risk reduction programs to safeguard communities. This presentation
delves into California's seismic risk mitigation efforts spanning three
decades, offering insights into policy development processes and navigating
political challenges. We hope that California's experience can yield valuable
lessons that could aid seismic regions worldwide, including New Zealand, in
improving their community resilience against seismic threats.
