The NZSEE 2024 organising team invites researchers and professionals to submit abstracts reporting state-of-the-art developments on the science and practice of earthquake engineering.

Paper topics need to be related to earthquake engineering but preference will be given to topics that complement the theme by providing new insights into:

  • Engineering seismology, including basin and site response, seismic hazard & risk
  • Earthquake geotechnical hazards, tsunami and their impacts
  • Influence of society, policy, culture, and emergency management on earthquake risk, and community resilience
  • Digital tools, machine learning (AI) and emerging technologies in earthquake engineering
  • Seismic performance, risk mitigation and resilience of new and existing structures
  • Earthquake geotechnical design including soil-structure interaction
  • Quantifying and addressing uncertainties in seismic design
  • Sustainability and decarbonisation in design practice
  • Design and performance of lifelines and infrastructure
  • Building code compliance, building legislation, standards development, land-use and planning
  • Other topics related to earthquake engineering

Guidelines

Format of submission

  • Abstracts to be submitted in English 
  • Abstract Submissions should be no more than 250 words
  • You will be required to enter in the author/co-authors and affiliations separately during the submission process
  • You will be required to enter a bio for the Presenting Author (max. 50 words per presenter) 
  • If you are submitting on behalf of the Presenter/s, please have their email address/s ready to include in the submission

When selecting a corresponding author, please ensure that this person will have continuing access to their chosen email address through until, and after, the conference. In the case of student submissions, where the student may be completing their studies in the near future, it may be prudent for the student’s supervisor to act as corresponding author.

General Information

Review and Notification to Authors
All completed submissions will be reviewed. You will be informed by email of the acceptance status of your abstract by 21 November 2023. Once the paper review has been completed in March 2024, you will be advised if you have been allocated a poster or oral slot in the programme and you will be required to make amendments to your paper based on the feedback from the reviewer.

Registration
All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present in person at the event. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed by no later than 20 March 2024.

Publication
By submitting an abstract/paper, authors agree to the publication of chosen abstracts/papers on the conference mobile app and conference proceedings or similar by NZSEE.

Presentation
Accepted oral presentations will be included within topical sessions of the official Conference programme. Posters will be on display throughout the conference and further details will be advised with the confirmation email.
