Bowen Stage 2 involves the construction of two 8-9 storey towers and a shared low-level atrium. The structures are steel frames with viscous dampers: the restoring force coming from widely-spaced eccentrically braced frames. Feature V-columns support a sawtooth facade cantilevered over Bowen St footpath. The buildings are founded on piles through the alluvium into rock. Tower #40 is structurally complete and 44 superstructure is under construction.

Historically Wellington has been one of the centres of earthquake engineering technology, research and development. The tour will venture around some of the known and not so known examples of seismic engineering thinking across various generations around the Wellington CBD. Don’t be surprised if a few examples of local engineering heritage are thrown in there as well!
Note: All tours will end up at the Thistle Inn pub (3 Mulgrave Street, those on the Town Hall Tour will need to make your own way there) which will be a great chance to grab a drink or meal, catch up with friends and colleagues and rest those weary legs!
