Timely submission by the 9 May 2025 deadline is essential to ensure a smooth peer review process and finalization of the symposium proceedings. We appreciate your prompt submission.

If you wish to withdraw your paper, please notify the organisers in writing at nzgs2025@confer.co.nz.


Submission Topics

Submission topics include but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Climate change and geotechnics
  • Reconstruction following natural hazard events
  • Supporting resilient communities
  • Planning and response for hazard events
  • Communicating and managing risk
  • Innovative tools and technologies
  • Best practice in design and construction
  • Educating future geoprofessionals
  • Data science applications in geotechnics

Presentation Formats

Due to the high volume of submissions expected, papers may be presented in one of the following formats:

  • Oral presentation
  • Poster presentation
  • 5-by-5 short group presentation (five slides, five minutes)

All accepted and peer-reviewed papers will be published in the digital symposium proceedings.

  • Authors will be notified of their assigned presentation format after peer review.
  • At least one registered author must be associated with each published paper.

General Information

Language of Submission
All abstracts must be submitted in English. 

Review and Notification to Authors
All completed submissions will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. You will be informed by email of the acceptance status of your abstract by 20 November 2024 along with details of presentation length and final paper requirements.

Registration
All presenters are required to register and pay the symposium registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed by the early bird registration deadline of 15 August 2025.

Publication
Accepted abstracts will be published. By submitting an abstract, authors agree to allow NZGS and the 2025 NZGS Symposium committee to publish.

Presentation
Instructions for presenters will be included in acceptance communications via email from the domain @confer.co.nz so please ensure you safe list this domain.

Use of AI
It is permitted to use of AI tools and technologies to enhance the language and grammar of papers for this symposium. This includes, but is not limited to, AI-powered proofreading and editing tools to improve the quality of written content.

Authors must disclose their use of AI in preparing their papers during the submission process. Any unethical use of AI, such as plagiarizing content or misrepresenting AI-generated contributions as original work, is strictly prohibited.
