School Visit

The organising committee has planned tours of two new Christchurch schools on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 August following the conference close.

Sign up for one of these visits below when you complete your conference registration.

Walking Tour to Ao Tawhiti

Start Time: 1.30pm
End Time: 3.00pm

Ao Tawhiti is a special character state school (Years 1-13) based in Christchurch’s CBD. The school's fundamental tenet that the child is central in directing his or her own learning so that the enthusiasm and love of learning is retained. The students value the choice, flexibility and respect that Ao Tawhiti's style of education provides them. Every student at Ao Tawhiti Unlimited Discovery develops an Individual Education Plan. This plan forms the basis of how and what they will learn. The IEP is usually set and reviewed at an Individual Education Meeting (IEM). The IEM allows the student, their family, and their homebase learning advisor, to share their thoughts, challenges and goals. These could be short term or long term. This meeting is not simply a course selection meeting. The meeting takes a holistic approach to finding the best way to let students  follow their  passions, interests and needs.

Rolleston College

Start Time: 1.30pm
End Time: 4.00pm airport drop, 4.30pm arrives back at CBD

College is in its fifth year of operation - its foundation pupils are now in Year 13. Learning at Rolleston is based around the Rolleston Spirit which identifies the key values and dispositions that are important for learners to develop during their time at Rolleston College. These focus on developing the individual learner’s awareness of self, community and future. These qualities are based in international research highlighting the key skills that are most valued in the workplace as well as attitudes required to flourish as an individual in the modern world. By providing a learning environment that nurtures and challenges, supports and extends it is Rolleston's aim that all learners will develop social responsibility and self-awareness through the fostering of and reflection on, these qualities.
