Visiting the NIWA Invertebrate Collection
The NIWA Invertebrate Collection (NIC) holds specimens from almost all invertebrate phyla, resulting from over half a century of marine taxonomic and biodiversity research in the New Zealand region, the South West Pacific and the Ross Sea, Antarctica. Wellington South Coast & Island Bay Marine Marine Education Centre
Enjoy an afternoon tea and brief informal introduction at the at the "Octopus Headquarters" (Island Bay Surf Club). Ee will then visit the historic Island Bay Bait Shed, now known as the "Bait House Aquarium", a habitat-based exhibit of local marine life. If weather allows, we will walk along the South coast and explore and learn about the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.
