GeoDiscoveryNZ, ANZIC and opportunities in international scientific drilling
Led by: Phaedra Upton
Much has happened in scientific drilling over the last year. The JOIDES Resolution has retired and IODP ended, but the Europe/Japan led IODP3 is up and running, while the US and China continue to establish new programs. Aotearoa scientists continue their involvement as proposal proponents, at workshops and summer schools, and as expedition participants.

Along with colleagues from ANZIC (Australian & New Zealand International Scientific Drilling Consortium), we will present an introduction to GeoDiscoveryNZ, outline global opportunities for involvement in scientific drilling, and share thoughts on our strategy for the future.

Bring your questions for a Q&A session!

Geoethics Aotearoa New Zealand Special Interest Group Meeting
Led by: Matthew Hughes
Geoethics is the field of theoretical and applied ethics focused on the human-Earth system nexus. Many of the grand challenges of human development will be addressed through further utilisation of Earth resources, with attendant impacts on communities and ecosystems. The human diversity of geoscience practitioners is also a valuable resource and is something that should be fostered. Join this Special Interest Group meeting to help further build our community, reflect on our first year of operations and celebrate our successes, and plan the way forward. There will be an opportunity for lightning talks showcasing relevant research projects and teaching activities.
