The Concrete NZ Conference 2025 organising committee invite you to submit an abstract for consideration and inclusion in the technical programme. The technical programme will include a combination of international and local speakers covering a range of topics relating to construction, design and materials.

Topics for Submission

Submissions are encouraged related to the following topics. However, as the technical programme will be driven by you, the delegates, submissions under other related topics will also be considered.

  • Concrete technology & materials:  Concrete materials, composite materials, reinforcing, durability, manufacture and supply of concrete.
  • Structural Performance and Design: Design of concrete structures, analysis and modelling methods, seismic performance, assessment and retrofit of existing structures.
  • Research, analysis, testing, & emerging technologies:  Research and development of new products, systems, techniques, design methods, development of codes, standards, guidelines.
  • Project case studies:  Examples of recent projects focusing on the concrete use, design, supply, and construction.
  • Low Carbon & Sustainability Initiatives: Development of low-carbon concretes, alternative binders, sustainable design, and other sustainability initiatives.
  • Other:  Any other topics relevant to the concrete industry.

Presentation Options

There are two options available when submitting an abstract:
  • Traditional presentation
    Full paper submission will be required if abstract is accepted
  • 5-minute 'Lightning Talk' presentation
    No full paper required


Format of Abstract Submission

  • Abstracts must be submitted in English
  • Submissions should be no more than 300 words
    • Lightning Talk submissions no more than 100 words
  • You will be required to enter in the author/co-authors and affiliations separately during the submission process
  • You will be required to enter a bio/career history for the Presenting Author/s (max. 100 words)
  • Authors must agree to personally attend and present the paper at the conference, if the paper or presentation is accepted

IMPORTANT: Once you have completed your submission, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this confirmation email, we have NOT received your submission. Please remember to check your spam/junk folders and contact the conference organisers should you need assistance at concrete@confer.co.nz.              


Abstract Review and Notification to Authors

All completed abstract submissions will be reviewed. Authors will be notified by End of May 2025 regarding preliminary acceptance of their abstract. Full paper submissions will be requested for accepted Traditional Presentations. Accepted Lightening Talks are not required to submit a full paper.  Papers will need to be submitted using the Concrete NZ 2025 template, which will be sent with the preliminary acceptance notification to authors. 

Technical Paper Submissions

Full paper submissions will be due by Monday 21 July 2025Once technical papers have been reviewed, you will be advised regarding the final acceptance and allocation of your presentation in the programme by Mid August 2025

Registration

All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present in person at the event. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed by no later than 29 August 2025.

Awards

Sandy Cormack Award
All papers accepted for the 2025 Concrete NZ conference will be eligible for the Concrete NZ – Learned Society’s ‘Sandy Cormack Award’ (the recipient will receive $1,000 and an award certificate). Judging criteria and other details will be provided to authors at the time of abstract acceptance.

Concrete NZ Chief Executive’s Best Lightning Talk Award 
The Concrete NZ Chief Executive’s Award for Best Lightning Talk recognises the most well-received (short) presentation, as voted by conference attendees via the event app. The prize celebrates clear, engaging, and insightful storytelling that captures an important topic or project, sparks curiosity and further conversation, as well as propelling presenter confidence.


Publication

By submitting an abstract/paper, authors agree to the publication of chosen abstracts/papers on the conference mobile app and conference proceedings or similar by Concrete NZ.
