Sir Ian’s story is a fascinating journey, from growing up in a house without electricity in the 1950s, to being part of a company recognised globally as being at the leading edge of technology and innovation.A former television presenter for TVNZ children's programmes like Play School, Spot On, and New Zealand's Funniest Home Videos, his very public life started when he joined the band Kal-Q-Lated Risk in 1967 as lead singer. After a stint in the army in the 1970’s Ian went on to complete an LLB degree from the University of Otago before setting up Taylormade Media, a television production company in 1989.

The following year he established Animation Research Limited, which quickly became one of the top computer animation companies in New Zealand and known internationally for its work, particularly in television advertising and sports graphics.

Sir Ian's achievements have been recognised through numerous prestigious honours. He was inducted into the New Zealand Technology Hall of Fame in 2009, appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to television and business, and named Outstanding Māori Business Leader of the Year in 2013. In 2019, he received the Innovator of the Year Award, and in the 2021 New Year Honours he was awarded a knighthood for his outstanding contribution to New Zealand.

Today, Sir Ian Taylor continues to inspire audiences through his vision, leadership, and unwavering belief that innovation, creativity, and courage can solve even the most complex challenges.  What fewer people may know is that it hasn’t all been plain sailing.

This practical and engaging session cuts through the hype to explore what digital technology and AI can actually do for perioperative nurses — and, importantly, how we make sure it helps rather than hinders. 

We’ll look at real-world opportunities to reduce documentation burden, improve access to information, support clinical decision-making and give nurses more time for what matters most: patient care.We’ll also tackle the big questions around safety, clinical judgement, trust and accountability. Carey Campbell is a registered nurse and digital health leader with extensive experience across clinical practice, health technology and digital transformation. She helps shape digital solutions that make healthcare safer, simpler and more connected. Carey's career has been mostly across public and private surgical care with a strong focus on nursing leadership.  She is passionate about amplifying the voice and input of nurses in digital health and ensuring the technology works in practice.
