The NZSEE 2023 organising team invites researchers and professionals to to submit abstracts reporting state-of-the-art developments on the science and practice of earthquake engineering.

Paper topics need to be related to earthquake engineering but preference will be given to topics that complement the theme by providing new insights into:

  • Advances in engineering seismology
  • Tsunami hazards and impacts on the built environment
  • Advances in seismic geotechnical hazards
  • Understanding seismic hazard and risk
  • Society, policy and culture in understanding impacts and improving resilience
  • Digital and emerging technologies
  • Advancements in research and practice in seismic performance
  • Advancements in soil-structure interaction
  • Advancements in structural and geotechnical assessment and design
  • Quantifying and addressing uncertainties in seismic design
  • Achieving resilience while accounting for uncertainties
  • Integrating sustainable engineering design
  • Embodied carbon calculations driving design
  • Performance and design of lifelines
  • Risk mitigation by retrofitting
  • Better building management in emergencies
  • Other topics related to earthquake engineering and its application

Guidelines

Format of submission 

  • Abstracts to be submitted in English 
  • Submissions should be no more than 250 words
  • You will be required to enter in the author/co-authors and affiliations separately during the submission process
  • You will be required to enter a bio for the Presenting Author (max. 100 words) 
  • If you are submitting on behalf of the Presenter/s, please have their email address/s ready to include in the submission

  Presenters advised by: 14 November 2022 21 November 2022

  Paper Submission Deadline: 27 January 2023 3 February 2023

  Presenter Early Bird Registration Deadline: 24 March 2023

General Information

Review and Notification to Authors
All completed submissions will be reviewed. You will be informed by email of the acceptance status of your abstract by 14 November 2022. Once the paper review has been completed in January 2023, you will be advised if you have been allocated a paper or oral slot in the programme and you will be required to make amendments to your paper based on the feedback from the reviewer.

Registration
All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present in person at the event. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed by no later than 24 March 2023.

Publication
By submitting an abstract/paper, authors agree to the publication of chosen abstracts/papers on the conference mobile app and conference proceedings or similar by NZSEE.

Presentation
Accepted oral presentations will be included within topical sessions of the official Conference programme. Posters will be on display throughout the conference and further details will be advised with the confirmation email.
