The Organising Committee of the 18^th International Meiofauna Conference 2022 invites researchers and professionals to submit abstracts for consideration and inclusion in the 2022 Conference Programme.

Suggested topics for submission are listed below. However, as the technical programme will be driven by you, the delegates, submissions under other related topics will also be considered.

Systematics and evolution
Biogeography and community dynamics in space and time
Interactions between meiofauna and other components of the benthos
Role of meiofauna in ecosystem processes and functions
Anthropogenic impacts on meiofauna
Looking ahead: developing and testing new methodologies and conceptual frameworks

Guidelines

Format of submission

Submissions must be prepared according to the format and guidelines provided. Please view and download the Abstract Template below
Save the name of your Word.doc file as follows: 18IMCO_Surname.Initial_first 5 words of your abstract title
Submissions not conforming to the correct format and template will be returned to authors without being reviewed
Abstracts to be submitted in English
Submissions should be no more than 300 words
You will be required to enter details for the author/co-authors separately during the submission process (author name, affiliation)
You will be required to enter a bio for the Presenting Author (max.100 words)
If you are submitting on behalf of the Presenter/s, please have their email address/s ready to include in the submission.

Virtual format: what to expect
Time zone
Consideration will be given to the time zones of the abstract presenters when building the programme, and talks will be scheduled at a time that will accommodate most of the presenters in a session.
Oral Presentations
All presenters will be offered the option to present live or use a pre-recorded presentation. You will also be invited to take part in a live Q&A session on your paper. As technology can sometimes let everyone down, all presenters will be asked to send us a recording of their presentation as a back-up.
Poster Presentations
Poster presentations will be uploaded into the virtual poster gallery of the conference platform and will be visible throughout the conference. All poster presentations will have a 1-minute pre-recorded introduction as well as a pdf of the poster. Delegates will submit questions on the platform and presenters will be able to reply to each of them directly.

Support available for students

1. We are pleased to announce that there will be support for students wanting to attend the conference, thanks to the Swedmark fund. There will be 10 Swedmark Travel Awards to Masters/PhD students that will cover registration costs.

Requirements
Candidates for these awards should provide the following by 10 September 2022:

A motivation letter (max 1 page) and
A CV (Curriculum Vitae)

The 10 students with the best letters and CV will be awarded. The awarded students will present their research by means of a poster or an oral presentation during the virtual conference.

2. PeerJ are sponsoring two awards at 18IMCO. The awards, focussed on supporting students or early career researchers, will be given for the Best Presentation and Best Poster. Each winner will receive a free publication in any PeerJ journal (subject to peer review) and a feature on the PeerJ blog.

General Information

Language of Submission
All abstracts must be submitted in English or accompanied with an English version.

Word Count
Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words.

Review and Notification to Authors
All completed abstracts will be reviewed by the International Scientific Committee. You will be informed by email (from 18imco@confer.co.nz) of the acceptance status of your abstract by Friday 16th September 2022.

Registration
All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee in order to be included in the programme and to present in person at the event.

Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed no later than the Early-Bird registration deadline of Thursday the 30th of September 2022.

Publication
By submitting an abstract, authors agree to publication of chosen abstracts on the conference mobile app and conference proceedings or similar by the 18th International Meiofauna Conference 2022.

Presentation
Accepted oral presentations will be included within topical sessions of the official Conference programme. Posters will be on display through the conference and further details will be advised with the confirmation email.

Peerj Special Issue
A Conference Collection based on the scope of 18IMCO and Meioscool will be published in the Open Access journal PeerJ Life & Environment. Manuscripts focussed on a topic relevant to the conference can be submitted to this collection by any researcher/student that presents at or attends 18IMCO/Meioscool.

Submissions to the 18IMCO Conference & Meioscool Collection will open towards the end of 2022, however should you wish to have a manuscript considered before the submission window, please contact communities@peerj.com.
